Language is the only tool we have for thinking, and with language we make either sense or nonsense. Decide for yourself if this gent in the picture uses language for good or ill.
President Obama is sharpening his campaign rhetoric, saying that Republican plans to return to economic policies of the George W. Bush years is “madness.”
“You know, the idea you would keep on doing the same thing over and over again, even though it’s been proven not to work — that’s a sign of madness,” Obama said during a fundraiser Friday night in Portland, Maine.
Obama prefaced that comment by saying, “we won’t win the race for new jobs and new businesses and middle-class security if we cling to this same old, worn-out, tired ‘you’re on your own’ economics that the other side is peddling.”
“It was tried in the decades before the Great Depression,’ he said. “It didn’t work then. It was tried in the last decade. It didn’t work.”
What does Obama mean by the word “it”?
What, exactly, is “the other side” peddling and are Big O’s wares any different?
How much longer can the center hold?
Take your time.
